‘A day in the life’ at Elomatic
Mona Åkerholm, Senior VP in Pharma
As the Senior Vice President of Pharma Services at Elomatic, my role is dynamic and heavily focused on our people, and I spend each day engaging in meetings with customers, partners, and our internal teams. My responsibilities include leading the pharma team, ensuring the well-being of our employees, and strategically planning our growth and development.
My journey in the pharmaceutical industry began when I joined Elomatic as a graduate, eager to start my career in engineering. Living in Turku, it felt natural to begin my professional life there. My first role as a Senior Process Designer marked my entry into the pharma sector, where I discovered my passion for consulting and connecting with people. The diversity of projects and the opportunity to collaborate with different clients kept me engaged and motivated throughout my career.
Throughout my career, I have enjoyed the diversity of projects and the chance to engage with different clients. One of the projects that I am particularly proud of is our work with Q-med Ab (nowadays Galderma) in Uppsala, Sweden, where I participated from the concept design phase all the way to the construction and validation of the facility. This experience gave me a profound understanding of what investment projects entail, as well as the importance of managing stringent timelines to achieve successful outcomes.
Being part of a team that strives for excellence and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector is not just a job; it’s a rewarding journey filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and collaboration. Every project we undertake is a chance to push boundaries, develop tailored solutions, and contribute to the success of our customers. It’s this shared dedication to continuous improvement and making a real difference that makes working at Elomatic so fulfilling.
Elomatic has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, collaborating with international companies to deliver innovative solutions. Our unique ability to combine global knowledge with strong engineering expertise enables us to manage large-scale projects efficiently. This dedication to creating tailored solutions sets us apart in the competitive landscape of the pharmaceutical sector.
In June this year, we announced Elomatic’s return to Sweden to offer services for controlled environments in the pharmaceutical industry and I am thrilled to be part of this exciting chapter in our journey. Leading Elomatic’s return to Sweden is a unique opportunity to bring fresh ideas and expertise back to a market where we have been absent for several years. The advanced pharmaceutical industry in Sweden presents numerous learning and collaboration opportunities, and I am particularly excited to reintroduce our high-quality cleanroom solutions.
Many Swedish pharmaceutical companies face challenges with cleanrooms that were built decades ago and that require modern upgrades. Elomatic’s advanced tools and expertise allow us to effectively update these spaces, ensuring compliance with the highest safety standards. Also, having a well-functioning cleanroom where you can invite investors helps with negotiations and to secure future investments for our customers.
We leverage innovative solutions such as AI capabilities and are developing paperless qualification processes to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. Our aim is to address diverse production needs, whether for bulk manufacturing or tailored drug production.
Looking to the future, our goal is to establish a long-term presence in Sweden that extends beyond pharmaceutical services. We are committed to developing new offerings and creating value for our customers while contributing to the efficiency to the market. By fostering collaboration across Nordic countries and focusing on sustainable solutions, Elomatic aims to enhance expertise that benefits the entire region.
The pharmaceutical industry is experiencing a rapid pace of innovation, particularly with the rise of personalized medicine. This trend requires a fresh approach to manufacturing and safety, aligning perfectly with Elomatic’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency. For those starting their careers in this field, my advice is to embrace patience and long-term thinking. Building a strong network and staying curious will serve you well in navigating the ever-evolving landscape of pharmaceuticals.
I wholeheartedly recommend Elomatic as a place to work. I’m very proud of our team and how we have built up a really good unit and are dedicated to see our customers succeed with our solutions. Being part of a team that strives for excellence and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector is not just a job; it’s a rewarding journey filled with opportunities for growth and collaboration.
