The future of maritime innovation with Elogrid. Enhancing ship performance for a sustainable future.
With Elogrid, unlock new levels of performance, efficiency, and sustainability. Say goodbye to traditional ship design limitations and embrace a future of smoother, quieter, and environmentally friendly journeys.
Key features and benefits
Enhanced maneuverability
All conventional grids being used to cover ships tunnel thruster openings have a major frequent problem: They reduce and block thrust, cause cavitation and serious reduction of ships performance in manoeuvring.
First time in history, Elogrid is uniquely optimized to maximize ships side thrust force in manoeuvring and at same time excel every other key performance criteria in normal sea going operations.
Elogrid is high performance hydrodynamic device, which reduces cavitation in the tunnels and thereby provides more laminar flow to and from the propeller unleashing full thruster capacity more efficiently, directionally, and silently.
Fuel efficiency
One of the most significant advantages of Elogrid is its ability to reduce fuel consumption. With potential fuel savings ranging from 1% to 4%, depending on vessel design and operational factors, Elogrid delivers immediate benefits by lowering carbon dioxide emissions and improving the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) rating.
Proven results
Backed by extensive testing and real-world applications, Elogrid has demonstrated outstanding performance on vessels like the Viking Line M/S Gabriella and the MS Crown Seaways cruise ferry operated by DFDS A/S. These success stories highlight Elogrid’s capacity to deliver tangible improvements in ship performance, including reduced vibrations, enhanced manoeuvrability, and significant fuel savings.

Elogrid evaluations
The Elogrid is energy saving device for vessels having side thrusters. The device is mounted in thruster tunnel openings to decrease additional resistance from tunnels when sailing and improve side thrust when thrusters are used.
The ship hull side thruster tunnel opening grids performances are evaluated in full scale using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for ship sailing at different speeds to find the impact in total resistance and in bollard pull situation with different thrust loads to find impacts inside thrust.
CFD –analysis in full scale allow higher precision in evaluations when compared to model tests due to scaling effects, the water properties cannot be adjusted to ensure model scale similarity to full scale.
The Elogrids have been delivered for following ship owners now – ColorLine, DFDS, Viking Line – and several Elogrids are already designed and evaluated to be manufactured and installed in next ships.
Evaluations are done inhouse by our proven CFD-team, led by Juha Tanttari.
Laser scanning ensures optimal design and swift installation
Through laser scanning, we ensure precise millimetre-level verification of the hull shape. The new Elogrids can be shaped optimally to achieve maximum efficiency. New components can be manufactured as advanced prefabrications, and installation is expedited thanks to accurate initial data, without installation issues. Laser scanning is an efficient and safe procedure conducted during docking. When a ship is docked, it’s advisable to perform scanning even with anticipation for future needs; ‘as-built’ forms are available as soon as they are required.
Optimizing ship performance: Three ways Elogrid can help you smooth the decarbonization journey
When it comes to ship design, decarbonization isn’t just a matter that needs to be addressed for newly built ships; it’s an urgent issue for the existing fleet.
Ship owners are faced with a multitude of design decisions and uncertainties, including choices regarding solutions for the existing fleet. Despite the challenges ahead, the primary goal remains optimizing the ship’s performance, whether it’s a cruise ship or ferry, superior ship design is the key.
