Virtual Factory
Virtual working environment for the entire plant
Virtual Factory is a digital working environment of the entire factory or production plant, in which the users can move freely, get acquainted with the processes and practice various maintenance operations using VR technology.
Virtual Factory is created from the plant’s design model, to which a visual layer is added with realistic materials and lights along with interactive content, such as maintenance procedures. The technical data and sensor data of the equipment can also be displayed in the required position in the environment.
The intuitive and easy-to-use user interface enables versatile training, fast transitions and different views within the facility.
Virtual Factory Mini brings the same environment to a tablet and is, thereby, usable wherever you like.
How to train staff for operating a machine several hundred meters long? – Model Sachsen Papier utilized the Valmet Virtual Mill virtual environment
Model Sachsen Papier has been utilizing Valmet Virtual Mill since the fall of 2023, with really positive feedback. The need arose when the facility was transformed from a paper mill to a cardboard mill. Virtual factory has been particularly helpful in orienting employees to new equipment and surroundings.
In practice, employees put on virtual glasses and see how they should act in different situations—for example, which railings to remove or which tools to use. The employees have been happy with the use of virtual environment, as it provides inspiring and clear training.
We have gained tremendous assistance from Valmet Virtual Mill in training. It is much easier to familiarize a new person with a huge machine when they can go through it virtually in their own time, and no one has to walk alongside them for hours through the hall.

Virtual Mill: New opportunities for plant design, training and maintenance with virtual models
Virtual models of production plants offer significant benefits at all stages of a plant’s lifecycle. From the visualisation of a plant design to streamline the construction process to a digital twin serving alongside an operational plant, the immersive experience utilising a VR headset allow the user to dive into the environment created by the 3D model in a realistic way. VR is particularly well suited for training, as virtual training is safer and more costeffective than training in the physical environment, while still offering a hands-on approach to learning.
